Yesterday, three little words were uttered in my home, by one of my own children, that I didn't think I'd have to hear for another year or two.
That's not fair.
It was even said in context. I can't remember what Tyler was doing that Chase didn't feel was "fair", but I remember my jaw dropping and thinking "holy cow, how does that kid know what's "fair" and not yet?!".

Ahh...the "that's not fair" comment! We recently heard that at our house for the first time too. How do they have a concept of "fair" or "not fair" aleady? And when will they learn that's how life rolls, so they should just get used to it! : )
There's an adorable Little Critter book called "That's Not Fair" by Gina and Mercer Mayer. It's a terrific book to read to your boys and start a discussion about how "sometimes things just aren't fair"! It's been a big help with my boys.
Oh boy! It's only the beginning! In our house that phrase is often followed by "fair does not mean equal"!!
