I've Not Always Been This Way

I have a couple of relatively quiet minutes, so I thought I'd take part in this week's Multiples and More Blog Carnival! I don't usually take part as Sunday is my day of blogging rest, but I really like the question they asked this week.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned in your multiples' first year of life?

There are obviously dozens and dozens (maybe even close to a hundred!) of lessons I learned in that first year, but one sticks out in a big way. Can I let you all in on a little secret? I have not always been this together, organized, scheduled or neat. It always amuses me when other moms comment on how picked up the house is, or how amazing it is that I have the boys on a schedule, or wonder how I can possibly manage to take care of the boys and find time for things for me (Scrapbooking, reading, etc) and helping out at the church.

Back before we had the boys I laughed when I heard of parents putting their kids on schedules (man, are they the best thing ever!), I was certainly not considered neat and was always glad my husband Nick was, and I was constantly procrastinating or flat out forgetting to do something. When we found out we were having triplets I started to get the idea I might need to do some serious changing in my own life and habits.

3 years ago I never, ever would have thought I'd be to the point of carrying a day planner, writing everything down, making tons of lists, cleaning the house on a daily basis, keeping up with the laundry or have my child (remember, I assumed I would have babies one at a time of course) on a schedule of any kind.

Going from caring just for yourself and your spouse to suddenly caring for 3 infants is a life changing experience, in more ways than one! Know what's an added benefit to my transformation? If I reenter the workforce I feel like I'll be that much more productive and efficient! Hmmmm.... I'll have to remember to enter these mom skills on my resume....

That's interesting, Helen. I actually feel like I am less organized and neat now. Must mean that I was too much before the kiddos. LOL
