Last night I had the chance to attend a Christmas Eve service with my sister. Yes, I know last night was only Christmas Eve Eve. However, when the church you attend expects close to 25,000 people to attend Christmas Eve services, members are encouraged to attend one of the 3 Christmas Eve Eve services in order to make room for first time visitors on Christmas Eve.
The service as a whole was as wonderful as I knew it would be. The music was beautiful, the sermon was inspiring and meaningful and seeing 2,500 people bathed in just candle light was beautiful!
At the end of the service the sanctuary gradually goes completely dark. It's almost eerie to be a in room with so many people and not be able to see much of anything. Then as the Christmas story is read, one single candle is carried in and lights The Christ Child candle on the Advent Wreath. From there Christ's light is spread throughout the whole congregation and pretty soon it's quite bright in the sanctuary. Such an amazing reminder of what Christians can do when they band together and let their lights shine as group!
If you are stuck at home today for whatever reason (illness, you're snowed in, flat tire, etc.), I invite you to watch our Christmas Eve service live online. I know you'll be touched by it.
Service times are CST. Services being broadcast are the 7pm, 9pm and 11pm services. You can watch at http://live.cor.org/
Merry Christmas!
I'll be taking tomorrow off, but will return on Friday with this week's Video Clip of the Week!
