Biophsyical Ultrasound

Originally posted 7.26.07

My appointment today was long, but interesting. Nick was able to come to the appointment, which I was excited about - he hasn't been able to make it since April! Still no bed rest for me - which is quite something I think!

First, I received a shot of Rhogam because my blood type is A-. This shot will protect both me and the babies should their blood type be positive. I'll get this shot again at delivery.

Then we did a biophysical ultrasound on the three babies. During this long ultrasound the doctor looks at each baby to take note of their muscle tone, movement, amniotic fluid level and to see if they're "practice" breathing. All three passed their physical with flying colors of course :) The doctor also measured each baby and boy are they getting big! Baby C is still lagging behind his brothers in growth, but the doctor is not concerned. Baby A currently weighs 3 pounds, Baby B weighs 3 pounds 5 oz and Baby C is at 2 pounds 10 oz. I'm carrying around 9 pounds of baby already! No wonder I feel huge and get tired just walking to the bathroom (which is a common occurrence).

I was given some pictures from the ultrasound, but to be honest with you I don't have a clue what they're pictures of! I suspect they're of random body parts (lungs or heart maybe), but because I don't know what they are I'm not going to bother posting them. Hopefully next week we'll get a better picture or two... it's getting harder though because these babies are getting so big which is making it rather crowded in there.

I've got an appointment next Thursday (August 2nd) and will update then!

General Update

Not a whole lot to update this week as my appointment lasted all of 10 minutes...

The babies are still doing really well, as am I. Beginning next week we will begin monitoring various things with each baby, like whether or not they are practicing their breathing. The boys are certainly plenty active, and of course at the most inconvenient times - like when I'm trying to fall asleep at night!

I asked the doctor how long he thought I would last, considering how well I'm doing now, and he said he'd like to see me get to 36 weeks, which is a week longer than I had been shooting for! Still no mention of bed rest either, which is just amazing to me.

Nick and I have been going through all the clothes and blankets given to us and have begun washing things in preparation for when the boys do arrive. Hopefully by next weekend we'll have the cribs here and set up. Once the nursery is set up fully I'll take a picture and post it here for you all to see.

My next appointment is the 26th, so I'll update then.

Me at 26 Weeks

Originally posted 7.12.07

I just returned from my doctor appointment and am happy to report that all is well!

I found out I passed my glucose tolerance test, which means no gestational diabetes for me! The typical cut off number is 140 - if you're over that then you have to take the 3 hour test... my number was 116, so I passed with flying colors! My blood pressure is fantastic and my weight gain seems to have stalled but the babies growth has not...

But enough about me! You're all here to read about the boys! Today was measuring day for the babies and they're all either right on track or ahead of schedule for triplet growth, which is great. The liquid surrounding them is equal, their organs all look good and they're certainly fattening up. Baby A measured today at 2.4 pounds, Baby B at 2.8 pounds and Baby C at 2.0 pounds. The doctor is not concerned right now with the difference in weight between Baby B and C. He said they don't get concerned until the difference is 20% or more and right now the difference is just at 20%. He also said Baby B may have measured a bit bigger than he actually is, because it was tough to get a good measurement of his stomach.

I've also passed an important milestone in that if the babies were to come now, they should all survive! Thankfully this shouldn't be an issue anyway, because the doctor said I'm doing remarkably well.

Nick thought it would be funny to take a picture of me next to the new plants we'd just put in and then in a month take a picture in the same place to see how much the plants and I have grown! This was actually taken last weekend, so this is me at 26 weeks...

My Clothes Don't Fit!

Originally posted 7.9.07

The boys are growing really well and the doctors are really pleased with my progress. I don't know how long they're measuring or what they weigh yet, as measuring day isn't for a couple of more weeks. Generally when they do the ultrasounds now they just take a quick peak to make sure their hearts are beating, bladders are working and that there's enough fluid around each baby.

Last Thursday I also took the 1 hour glucose tolerance test to check for gestational diabetes. I still haven't heard the results (they had hoped Friday), but expect to hear today. If I passed then great! If I didn't pass then I have to go back for a 3 hour test.... basically I drink some orange stuff and then every hour for the next 3 hours they'll draw blood. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

Beginning this Thursday (the 12th), I'll be working full time from home. I'm really looking forward to this as I've noticed myself becoming more and more tired throughout the day. This is also a good thing because I'm rapidly growing out of any clothes that are acceptable for work! This morning I changed my shirt 3 times before I found one that fit.

The nursery is really coming together! We've been getting stuff organized and put away slowly. The last big thing we need to do (and it's pretty big) is get the 3 cribs set up. When it's all set up I'll be sure to post a picture!

I've got another appointment Thursday!

Moving Day & More Showers

Originally posted 7.1.07

I'm sorry it took me so long to put an update here! It's been a busy 3 days for us....

I had a doctors appointment on Thursday and the boys still look great! We did an ultrasound as usual and at this appointment I finally met the 4th (and final) doctor that will be seeing me throughout the pregnancy. He was very pleased to hear that my job has allowed me to begin working from home in the afternoons. Still no mention of bed rest! WOOHOO!

Last Monday I began working mornings from the office and afternoons from home. This gives me the opportunity to take a quick afternoon nap and do my work from a reclined or laying down position. I feel much more rested at the end of the day, although I am still quite tired overall :)

On Friday Nick finished packing up our things while I watched. It has been extremely frustrating to not pack (I've done all the packing for our previous moves)! I have to say though - Nick has impressed me a great deal! I had no idea he was so good at packing! Too bad for him I'll remember it next time we move...

Saturday was moving day. And it rained. All day. Nick and 3 guys from our small group braved the weather though and got all of our belongings to the new house! By the time we went to bed the mattress had even dried out. Saturday was also baby shower day for me! The women in our small group threw a wonderful shower for me and it was great to see my friends in one place.

My next update will be after my appointment on the 5th!
